Alcohol Consumption During Pregnancy

Alcohol Consumption During Pregnancy
The 2020 Clinical Practice Guideline for Screening and Counselling for Alcohol Consumption During Pregnancy aims to establish national standards of care for screening and counselling pregnant women and women of child-bearing age about alcohol consumption. In addition, the guideline outlines evidence-based approaches to care for women who may have alcohol use disorder. The guideline reviews brief intervention practices, alcohol screening tools, motivational interviewing, pharmacotherapy options, referral pathways and counselling for alcohol use and breastfeeding. After reviewing the guideline, SOGC members may complete the Guideline Resource Kit, which includes an online quiz that will contribute towards continuing medical education credits, and download resources such as brief intervention checklists and a summary of pharmacotherapy options.
