Biography
Darrien is originally from a small reserve in northern BC. He went to university and medical school here at the University of Alberta (and he’s happy to be back in Edmonton!). He completed an OB/GYN residency at Dalhousie University in Halifax NS before doing an MIS Fellowship in Regina SK with Dr. John Thiel where he now works as a Co-director for the University of Saskatchewan CanSAGE MIS program. He was the OB/GYN Residency Program Director for the Regina program for 7 years and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of OB/GYN. In addition to the field of minimally invasive gynecology, he has an interest in medical education and currently sits on the Royal College Speciality Committee for OB/GYN. He has an interest in fibroids, endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, and surgical simulation and is actively involved in research and teaching in these areas. His search for ever evolving minimally invasive techniques brought him to the technology that he’s about to discuss with you today.
