Dr. Jean Macklaim PhD
As a Computational biologist at the University of Western Ontario, I have focused my research on “omics” studies to analyze host-microbiome interactions in humans (vaginal, gut, oral), plant (zea mays) and cultured cells. My expertise includes metatranscriptomics and interpretation of high-throughput sequence data (16S, DNAseq, RNAseq) to associate microbial functions with host phenotypes and metabolomics. Uniquely, I employ statistically rigorous methods from the field of compositional data analysis (CoDa) for microbiome studies. I am also very interested in data visualization, in scientific communication, and in outreach.
1. I do not have an affiliation (financial or otherwise) with a pharmaceutical, medical device or communications organization.
2. I do not intend to make therapeutic recommendations for medications that have not received regulatory approval (i.e. “off-label” use of medication).
