Biography

Dr. Amanda Black MD

Ottawa ON
Dr. Black is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Ottawa. She works at The Ottawa Hospital, where she is Medical Director of the Shirley E. Greenberg Women’s Health Centre, and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. She has completed medical training at the University of Western Ontario, University of Ottawa, and Queen’s University and holds a Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.

Nationally, she has assumed many leadership roles with the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC) and has authored many national guidelines, including the Canadian Contraception Consensus. Internationally, she represented Canada at the Centers for Disease Control during the development of the U.S. Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraception. She has been involved with the ongoing development of the sexandu.ca website and many other educational initiatives in the area of contraception and sexual health, including the development of counselling aids for office practice, the development of contraception modules and workshops for physicians and residents, and the development of on-line learning modules for physicians.

In her “free time” she and her husband keep busy shuttling their three boys (ages 12, 9, and 5) to various activities!
