SOGC Global Women's Health Committee Statement on the attack of a MSF Hospital

The SOGC condemns the senseless attack of the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) maternity hospital, where terrorists murdered 24 people with bullets and grenades on May 12th, 2020 in Kabul. New mothers, newborn infants and healthcare providers were killed in the attack. Perpetrated in 2020, the International year of the Nurse and the Midwife, this atrocity is an affront to all individuals who work in helping new life come safely into this world. Our midwifery colleagues died while demonstrating their dedication and determination to protect that most basic human right – the right to give birth safely. Our hearts are with their families and their communities. May they heal and continue the daily fight for women's rights to security and safety, wherever this will be necessary and for as long as it may take
