Committees
Volunteering on a committee is an excellent way to meet new colleagues and work together on many important projects. As a member, you can join one (or more) of our numerous committees and working groups that include guideline development and opportunities to advance the SOGC's social responsibility and advocacy efforts.
Abstract Committee
To assist in the organization and implementation of the SOGC Abstract Program.
ALARM Committee
To oversee the content and process of an advanced labour risk management course offered by the SOGC for maternity care providers.
ALARM/GESTA International Committee
To oversee the content and process of the SOGC’s ALARM International Program that aims to reduce maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity in resource poor settings.
Annual Clinical and Scientific Conference (ACSC) Planning Committee
To oversee the planning of the Annual Clinical and Scientific Conference, ensuring that the highest quality of continuing professional development activities are available to health care professionals practicing in obstetrics and gynaecology, and maintaining accreditation standards.
Canadian Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology and Obstetrics (CANPAGO) Committee
To act as a resource for the Society members and the Council in issues involving Canadian Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology.
Choosing Wisely Committee
To oversee the SOGC’s Choosing Wisely campaign and establish a list of recommendations related to Gynaecology and Obstetrics to reduce the use of unnecessary tests and procedures.
Clinical Chairs Committee
To provide a forum in which Clinical Committee Chairs s can express opinions and recommendations to issues relating to the efficient and effective functioning of the Society committees.
To increase communication among the Clinical Committee Chairs of the Society.
To act as a resource committee to the President, the Board and the membership of the SOGC.
To promote with the SOGC membership and organization, participation in and support for activities relating to the work of the Society’s committees.
Clinical Practice – Gynaecology Committee
To serve as an advisory group to the Council and the Society members on issues pertaining to the area of gynaecologic health care.
To provide policy statements, committee opinions and Clinical Practice Guidelines with regards to area of gynaecologic health care.
To oversee the development of documents that provides evidence-based guidelines in all aspects of area of gynaecologic health care.
Clinical Practice – Obstetrics Committee
To provide Policy Statements, Committee Opinions and Clinical Practice Guidelines with regards to obstetrical health care.
To oversee the development of documents that provides evidence-based guidelines in all aspects of clinical obstetrics.
Diagnostic Imaging Committee
To serve as an advisory group to the Council and the Society members on issues pertaining to diagnostic imaging services in obstetrics and gynaecology.
To provide Policy Statements, Committee Opinions and Clinical Practice Guidelines with regards to diagnostic imaging services in obstetrics and gynaecology.
To oversee the development of documents that provide evidence-based guidelines in all aspects of diagnostics imaging services in obstetrics and gynaecology.

Family Physicians Advisory Committee
To provide a forum in which Associate Family Physicians (FP) can express opinions and recommendations pertaining to issues in reproductive healthcare.
To provide information and develop programs for Associate FP who are members of the society.
To increase communication among Associate FP Members and members of the society.
Finance Committee
To review the SOGC's financial policies, strategies, and capital structure; taking action and providing reports and recommendations to the Executive Officers and Board of Directors.
Genetics Committee
To provide opinions/analysis/directions on genetic-related topics for the Society and its members.
To oversee the development of documents that provide evidence-based guidelines in all aspects of genetics as it relates to reproduction.
Global Women’s Health Initiative Committee
Overall, the GWHIC advises and supports the work of the Society's International Women's Health Program and its projects.
Guideline Management and Oversight Committee
To develop and maintain processes and standards for SOGC Guidelines, including recommended level of evidence classifications.
To identify best practices for review and approval of Guidelines developed by the SOGC committees and ad hoc working groups.
To assess and prioritize submitted topics in obstetrical or gynaecological care for future Guideline development based on the needs of women, care providers and learners.
To advise and ensure that published Guidelines are re-evaluate on a minimum 5 year cycle.
Indigenous Women's Health Initiatives Committee
To raise awareness of SOGC members and health care professionals to foster a socio-cultural understanding of Indigenous peoples and to provide the tools needed to deliver culturally-safe care.
Infectious Disease Committee
To serve as an advisory group to the Council and the Society members on issues pertaining to the area of infectious diseases of women and newborns.
To provide Policy Statements, Committee Opinions and Clinical Practice Guidelines with regards to area of infectious diseases of women and newborns.
To oversee the development of documents that provides evidence-based guidelines in all aspects of area of infectious diseases of women and newborns.
Maternal Fetal Medicine Committee
To serve as an advisory group to the Council and the Society members on issues pertaining to maternal and fetal health.
To provide Policy Statements, Committee Opinions and Clinical Practice Guidelines with regards to maternal and fetal health care.
To oversee the development of documents that provides evidence-based guidelines in all aspects of maternal and fetal health care.
Medico-Legal and Ethics Committee
To provide opinions/analysis/directions on medico-legal topics for the Society and its members.
To act as a resource committee to the president, the Council and the membership of the SOGC.
To oversee the development and content of post-graduate courses in medico-legal aspects of the practice of obstetrics and gynaecology.
To provide Policy Statements, Committee Opinions and Clinical Practice Guidelines with regards to area of reproduction and infertility.
Nomination Committee
To assist the SOGC’s Board of Directors in leading a transparent process to promote and recruit the most suitable candidates for vacant positions on the Board and to make recommendations regarding succession planning.
Obstetrical Content Review Committee
To develop clinical core content for the MOREOB ALARM and ALARM International programs.
Promotion of the Specialty Committee
To improve retention of physicians and to promote recruitment into the specialty of obstetrics and gynaecology.
To develop and implement the annual Medical Student Program at the ACSC.
Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Committee
To serve as an advisory group to the Council and the Society members on issues pertaining to the area of reproduction and infertility.
To provide Policy Statements, Committee Opinions and Clinical Practice Guidelines with regards to area of reproduction and infertility.
To oversee the development of documents that provides evidence-based guidelines in all aspects of area of reproduction and infertility.
Resident Committee
To provide a forum in which ob/gyns in training can express opinions and recommendations pertaining to issues affecting training and practice.
To develop programs and resources for residents across Canada.
To increase communication among residents and members of the Society.
To provide mentorship and programming for medical students interested in pursuing residency in ob/gyn.
Sexual Health and Reproductive Equity (SHARE) Committee
To serve as an advisory group to the Board and the Society members on issues including contraception; Sexuality and Family Planning Issues; Equity Seeking Population; LGBTQ Health; and Cosmetic Genital Surgery.
Urogynaecology Committee
To provide Policy Statements, Committee Opinions and Clinical Practice Guidelines with regards to the treatment of lower urinary tract problems and pelvic floor dysfunction.
To oversee the development of documents that provides evidence-based guidelines in all aspects of Urogynaecology.
