SOGC/CFWH Journalism Award for Excellence in Women's Health Reporting
Description
This award, presented by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC)
and the Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health (CFWH), recognizes outstanding reporting
on women’s sexual and reproductive health issues in consumer newspapers, magazines, and
broadcasts across Canada. The Journalism Award highlights journalism’s valuable service,
enabling women to make informed health and lifestyle choices with balanced, accurate, timely,
responsible, and insightful communication.
Award
The award consists of $1,000 and a plaque to be presented to winners in two separate media
categories – print and broadcast. The awards are presented during the Annual Clinical Meeting
Awards Ceremony (June).
Eligibility
The article must address a woman’s health topic or issue;
The article must have appeared in a Canadian consumer newspaper, magazine, or
broadcast report between January 1 st and December 31 st of the previous year. Trade pieces
are not accepted;
Broadcast submissions (television or radio) should be documentary style and at least 5
minutes in duration;
Print submissions (newspaper, general interest magazine, or online news) should be feature
style and at least 1,500 words in length.
Communication Plan
The award recipient shall submit a onepage
biography and a photograph. A photo and mention
of the award will be included in the SOGC News (the Society’s newsletter).
