Junior Member Elective Grant in International Women's Health (Millennium Fellowship)

Description

The purpose of this grant is to assist residents wishing to pursue elective training in international women’s health. The general objectives are to allow interested residents to develop a better understanding of women’s health issues and the practice of obstetrics and gynaecology in a developing country, and the appreciation for the work conducted by fellow health professionals in those countries. The elective should provide the recipient of the grant with an active, individualized and practical experience in a developing country related to clearly defined education objectives. Funding is provided by the Foundation for the Promotion of Sexual and Reproductive Health whose mission is to promote and support educational initiatives in the field of sexual and reproductive health.

Grant

The grant consists of $4,000 for the resident. In addition, $1,000 will be awarded to the host institution providing the traineeship to help cover expenses. Grant recipients will be recognized at the Annual Clinical Meeting Awards Ceremony (June).

Time and location of tenure

The elective must be spent in a clinical setting in a developing country.

Eligibility

•  Applicant must be a Junior Member of the SOGC in good standing;

•  Applicant must be enrolled in a residency training program in Canada; and

•  The learning activity is to take the form of a short period (4 weeks minimum) of clinical update.

Application Deadline

May 1st of each year. All electives taking place between July 1st (of the previous year) and June 30th of the current year are eligible. Complete the attached application form.

Selection

The Selection Committee is composed of representatives from the SOGC and/or the Junior Member Committee. Submissions are evaluated on the overall merit of the traineeship.

Fellowship adjudication

Payment will be issued in two installments, the first one upon grant announcement and the second upon receipt of the final report, which is a detailed account of your elective.
