SOGC member Dr. Roland Antaki was featured in a new Global News story examining a recent announcement on the renaming of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS).
Dr. Antaki describes the name change as “overdue for a long time,” noting that the previous terminology does not reflect current medical understanding of the condition. The outdated name contributes to misconceptions, delayed diagnoses and gaps in care for the millions of women affected worldwide. “It’s very important for the patient and for the medical community to have a name that reflects the impact of that syndrome,” Dr. Antaki said.
