Thyroid Disease and Infertility

Thyroid Disease and Infertility
In the past three years, large randomized controlled trials have been published addressing the screening and management of thyroid disease in the area of infertility and assisted reproduction. The SOGC 2020 Committee Opinion: Thyroid Disease and Infertility, reviews this emerging evidence, and offers recommendations for testing of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroid antibodies for women seeking care for infertility, and who have TSH elevations. In addition, this Committee Opinion reviews if levothyroxine and glucocorticoid steroids should be considered as treatment approaches for individuals with positive thyroid antibodies. After reviewing the report, SOGC members may complete the Guideline Resource Kit which includes an online quiz that will contribute towards continuing medical education credits, and download the abstracts of the recent clinical trials and meta-analyses that informed this Committee Opinion.
