Biography
Dr. Heather Scott is an Obstetrician Gynaecologist at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Dalhousie University. She is a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist and is also the Head of the Division of Obstetrics at the IWK Health Centre and the Director of the Global Health Unit in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Dalhousie. She is currently Chair of the External Advisory Committee of the Canadian Perinatal Surveillance System (CPSS) Dr. Scott has worked in a number of countries on quality improvement initiatives including Canada, South Africa, Tanzania , Rwanda and Ghana and is particularly interested in how data and health indicators can help to guide quality improvement . She is an ALARM Canada and ALARM International instructor. She was involved in two recently concluded CIHR funded projects in Rwanda and Tanzania that focused primarily on mentorship and education, and she has just completed a one-year sabbatical during which she worked as a maternal consultant for the World Health Organization. Much of that work focused on MPDSR (Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response) globally and educational tools to improve clinical care to impact outcomes.
