Biography
Dr. Lynn Murphy-Kaulbeck has practiced as a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist for over 20 years and is an Associate Professor at Dalhousie University. Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck received a diploma in nursing in 1986. Her additional education includes an Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Ottawa, a Master of Science in Community Health and Epidemiology from Dalhousie University, and a Master of Management (International Masters for Health Leadership) from McGill University. Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck received her MD from McMaster University and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at McGill University. Her fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine was completed at Dalhousie University. Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck has been an active participant in the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) since residency and has served on many committees. She has been a Director of the Board since 2019, and currently serves as chair of the Governance Committee; she is President Elect for the SOGC and will begin her term as President in June 2024. Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck has also held several leadership positions throughout her career including Board Chair and Past President of the New Brunswick Medical Society. Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck was Medical Director for New Brunswick’s provincial perinatal program, Perinatal NB, and has been involved in several other provincial and national committees and organisations. Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck has held the positions of Department Chief of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Medical Director of the Women’s and Children’s Program, and Division Head of Maternal Fetal Medicine, all at the Moncton Hospital. Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck has been involved in medical education throughout her career and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada’s Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Exam Committee and past member of the MFM specialty committee. She was also an examiner for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology exam and an accreditation surveyor. Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck held the position of Site Medical Education Director for the Moncton Hospital and was on the working group and implementation group for Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick. Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck believes that a strong voice is required to advocate for women’s health and rights through the work of the SOGC.
