Biography
Dr. Susie Dzakpasu is a Senior Epidemiologist in the Maternal and Infant Health Section of the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). This team is responsible for the Canadian Perinatal Surveillance System program, which is an ongoing national health surveillance program whose mission is to contribute to the improvement of the health of parents, infants and their families during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Susie's work focuses on the surveillance of maternal morbidity and mortality in Canada, including methods to improve the usefulness of existing data for this purpose. She is currently working with other researchers inside and outside of PHAC to study maternal deaths captured in the national coroner’s database, hospital discharge data and vital statistics. Susie is a graduate of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, with a doctorate in epidemiology.
