Dr. Joey Bonifacio MD FRCPC MSc
Joey Bonifacio is the Clinical Lead of the Transgender Youth Clinic at the Hospital for Sick Children. He completed his general pediatrics residency and social pediatrics fellowship focussing on LGBTQ youth and children with disabilities at the Montreal Children's Hospital where he was also Chief Resident. He then completed his adolescent medicine fellowship at SickKids. His clinical interests are street-involved and homeless youth, LGBTQ teens, and immigrant and refugee adolescents.
He currently works in the Division of Adolecsent Medicine and Pediatric Emergency Medicine at The Hospital for Sick Children and the Department of Pediatrics at St. Michael's Hospital. His outreach work includes providing medical care and counseling at Covenant House and Evergreen. He is also the Medical Director at Youthdale Treatment Centres.
He completed his BA from Cornell and his MD from UBC. To further understand his client population, he has completed an MSc in Bioethics from McGill, an MPH in Clinical Effectiveness from Harvard, and an MA in Medical Anthropology from UofT.
