What We Do

Clinical Practice Guidance

As a national bilingual society, the SOGC emphasizes educational materials in both French and English, including its Clinical Practice Guidance documents (Clinical Practice Guidelines, Clinical Consensuses and Technical Updates), which are recognized internationally as standards of excellence. Clinical guidance is published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada (JOGC), the Society’s esteemed peer-reviewed medical journal.

Education

As a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) provider, the SOGC also offers a comprehensive suite of Continuing Medical Education (CME) events, including the Annual Clinical and Scientific Conference (ACSC), regional conferences, virtual and in-person summits, online courses and specialized training programs like the Advances in Labour and Risk Management (ALARM) program.

In addition, the SOGC provides educational tools and resources for patients and the public, including specific content for underserved populations. The SOGC’s public-facing websites: pregnancyinfo.ca, sexandu.ca, yourperiod.ca, itsaplan.ca, menopauseandu.ca and hpvinfo.ca — receive millions of visits each year, offering trusted information to Canadians across the country in an accessible way.

Advocacy and Leadership in Women’s Health

The SOGC is committed to advocating for equitable, high-quality health care for women across Canada. We focus on providing evidence-based information to empower women and their health care providers to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. We work in partnership with local, regional, and federal partners to address public health challenges, reduce health disparities and support informed decision-making. Through this collaborative, multi-level approach, the SOGC continues to lead the way in improving outcomes and setting the standard for women’s health in Canada and beyond.

Global Women's Health

The SOGC is committed to advancing women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights at home and around the world, by addressing health inequities and promoting timely access to quality, culturally-safe care. The health of marginal and vulnerable populations is particularly at risk and requires increased attention to the social, cultural, and economic factors that can influence health outcomes.
