SOGC president speaks to Globe and Mail on maternal mortality

SOGC President Dr. Lynn Murphy-Kaulbeck spoke with The Globe and Mail on the need for a national framework for standardized data collection on maternal deaths and maternal morbidity.

She stressed that better data is crucial for improving maternal health outcomes, especially for Black and Indigenous patients. Current data collection methods in Canada are inconsistent and often underreport maternal deaths, highlighting the urgent need for Ottawa to work with provinces and territories to improve data collection to prevent future tragedies.
