The SOGC has submitted its 2025 pre-budget recommendations to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance. The pre-budget submission process allows industries and organizations of all sizes the opportunity to outline their priorities and shape the next federal budget.
In our submission, the SOGC is calling on the federal government to follow through on its 2025 election platform commitments to invest in key areas that will improve care for women in Canada through low-cost but transformative measures.
Our recommendations include:
- Calling on the government to fulfil its election promise to invest $20 million to close data gaps in women’s health by using a portion of this to create a National Women’s Health Data Dashboard;
- Calling for the campaign commitment of $412 million over four years to launch a national IVF program;
- Encouraging annual funding of at least $40 million to make the Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights Fund permanent, as promised during the election;
- Urging Ottawa to invest $20 million for maternal health research, which was also pledged in the Liberal platform; and
- Asking the government to provide $100 million over three years to reduce surgical wait times for obstetric and gynaecological procedures.
Each of these recommendations is presented through an economic lens, to ensure the Carney government will see the clear financial benefits of taking steps to make improvements for women’s health and well-being. This document demonstrates that investing in women’s health is an investment in the economic growth and stability of Canada.
