Biography
Heather Millar, MD, MIPH, FRCSC, is a Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecologist at SickKids Hospital and Kindercare Pediatrics, Family Planning specialist at Women’s College Hospital, Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto and Co-Chair of the AMPATH (Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare) Kenya Reproductive Health Research Working Group. She completed her residency in ObGyn and subsequent fellowships in Global Women’s Health and Equity (GWHE) and Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (PAG) at the University of Toronto. As part of her GWHE fellowship, Dr. Millar worked as a Faculty ObGyn at Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya with the AMPATH Consortium. She continues to participate in AMPATH with a focus on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health. During her fellowship training, she became interested in the impact of trauma on care experiences and health outcomes within marginalized populations. Her PAG fellowship research focused on Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) for pregnant and parenting adolescents. Dr. Millar now provides teaching to trainees and colleagues on TIC in ObGyn and is a member of the Trauma-Informed Care Working Group at SickKids Hospital.
