IFD Testing in Women with Chronic Viral Infections

IFD Testing in Women with Chronic Viral Infections
Chronic maternal viral infections, including Hepatitis B, C and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), require viral suppression in order to decrease the risk of vertical transmission. This clinical practice guideline reviews non-invasive screening tests and intrauterine fetal diagnostic testing options for Hepatitis B, C and HIV. Prior to any test procedure, healthcare providers should review the benefits and risks associated with the test in order to ensure the patient can make an informed decision. The guideline outlines key discussion items about the benefits and risks associated with each test option. After reviewing the guideline, SOGC members may complete the Guideline Resource Kit which includes an online quiz that will contribute towards continuing medical education credits, and download resources such as a counselling reference tool.
