The 2020 SOGC Clinical Practice Guideline No. 396 -Fetal Health Surveillance presents evidence and recommendations regarding the use, classification, interpretation, response and documentation of fetal surveillance in the intrapartum period. This information is useful for all members of the intrapartum team to assure appropriate and efficient care is given to women and their fetus. This guideline reviews methods of uterine activity assessment and fetal heart rate surveillance. After reviewing the guideline, test your knowledge by completing the Guideline Resource Kit on SOGC's online platform, TopClass, eligible for continuing medical education (CME) credits. Take advantage of additional resources available including an index of terminology and a table summarizing responses to intermittent auscultation and electronic fetal monitoring.
